Some of our favourite things to do include.

Our names are Kian and Ashley Bates and we live in the beautiful Pacific Palms surrounded by the Great Lakes region of New South Wales, an area which inspires us to capture moments in time to present our interpretations of our surrounding land and seascapes. Ashley and I have both grown up next to the ocean and feel recharged by it's magnificence whether it be on a surf board, bodyboard, fishing, free diving or behind the camera.
Kian started capturing images with his first waterproof camera when in high school and has learnt to develop his interpretations by constantly experimenting through the years with a series of cameras and lenses.
To be able to freeze a moment in time of a breaking wave and share with people is rewarding and I am constantly amazed as it's another world viewing waves from behind the lens above and below the surface. No two waves ever break the same and shooting on dark with the flash is an adrenalin rush. Barrelling waves, backwash, vortexes, wedges, micro waves, good clarity and stormy swells make for a great session. Our main areas of passion are seascape, oceanic, surf and landscape. However you may come across the odd macro shot which is my wife's passion.
Great Lakes Paddocks is a family friendly destination offering delicious wine, grass-fed angus beef, local produce, music events and private functions. Nestled in the stunning hinterland of the Great Lakes region only s short drive from the Palms, we are a part of the magical natural landscape that surrounds us.
Great Lakes Paddocks has evolved from Great Lakes Winery, reflecting the diversity of what is on offer for locals, not-so-locals, tour groups, and families. You are welcome to explore our website to find out more or come visit us and soak up the tranquil back paddock and savour a cheese board with a glass of our wine – we’d love to meet you!
Old Inn Road Winery
The Old Inn Road vineyard is situated about 5km west of the town of Bulahdelah on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The fresh spring rain, long sunny days and mild dry winters are well suited to particular grape varieties.
